Chapter 11: STRIPES!

Winners Annouced!

"At the two-yard peg she faced round, and said, 'A pawn goes two squares in its first move, you know.So you'll go VERY quickly through the Third Square--by railway, I should think--and you'll find yourself in the Fourth Square in no time. Well, THAT square belongs to Tweedledum and Tweedledee--the Fifth is mostly water--the Sixth belongs to Humpty Dumpty--But you make noremark?''I--I didn't know I had to make one--just then,' Alice faltered out."- Chapter 11, Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There Happy new year! When I think of Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee, I always think stripes and plaids. Lewis Carroll does not mention the patterns they are wearing, but so many illustrations and movies have clad them in mismatched stripes and patterns. Your challenge this month is to use STRIPES.

CRESCENDOh
. There is an online shop selling all kinds of things including charming CRESCENDOh clear stamps, including the Alice in Wonderland by Danita set that the design team is showing off. But the heart of the site is all the stories; stories by artists of all kinds, stampers, quilters, paper crafters. Each shares a tale of how art has changed their life. For some it is a joyous outlet, but for many others it has been a way to stay afloat in times of tragedy or grief. As I thought about this challenge, the theme of STRIPES seemed appropriate. Stripes decorate circus tents and tents of the knights of old. Stripes are birthday wrapping paper and elegant Regency wallpaper. Stripes are the traditional garb of prisoners, and stripes are also how the marks of a whip are described. Stripes can represent so many different things, and the creative process has been many things to the people who have contributed stories to the CRESCENDOh site.

Winners are annonced today! Go check to see who won this challenge from all the great entries!

This week my art piece is a mixed media plaque. It has been a tough week, I have been sick with pneumonia, I have been sick since before Christmas. It hit me hard this week. I was also asked to make some projects for CHA using the Cosmo Cricket line.

So here you go here is my project for this month of stripes
I took a 6" X 12" board and gessoed it and painted the background. Set aside to dry, took mini canvas and added paper from graphic 45 Halloween in Wonderland, also set aside to dry. I then took to coloring my images with colored pencils. Blending with Gamasol. I love these little images. I could color them over and over again. I cut them out and then adhered them to the little canvas. I Have not put a finish on this as I think I will be adding a coat of wax to it. I think it will look fabulous with wax. I could not put it on now as my lungs are weak.

Here are some close ups of the mini canvas

Here is one that I was just playing with. It is kinda of a "Where's Waldo"

So that's it for me this week. I am hoping for a feeling better kind of week for me. It is time.

Now off you go......check out this weeks inspiration by the Altered Alice design team members. Then go get your stripes going and join in on the challenge.

My very own Alice having tea as the Mad Hatter watches over her!
(Just wanted to share that)
Next time I will share a piece of Art that she had in an Art Show. (Alice related)

Interuption on the blog!

Oh my GOSH, over at Studio L3 Linda is having people make tim a birthday card. That is this weeks challenge. Not so hard, right?
So when I heard that it was tim's birthday on the 7th, I had to get right on this! Some things are just more important. So I dropped everything....even the article I had hinted to. Still shhhhh!
Here it is........tim's birthday card!
(I hope he likes it)......(is it worthy of the master?)
I covered the paper with a vinyl, did some stitching, staples and what I am most excited about....the
letters I did. (the little bottle is cute)
Closer look at the letters. They were metal letters that I painted, then put on some Rock Candy Distress Crackle and then I distress inked and then.....I embossed them!
I HEART them! I really do!
Another close up
Oh and just had to show you the letters again. LOVE!
Inside is a simple note to tim!
Happy Birthday big guy!

I should have waited to take pictures in natural light, like tomorrow, but I was to excited!

A NEW YEAR!

I have been busy! I know, it does not look like it by the looks of my postings! The holidays came and went so fast. I made almost every gift I gave this year. Yep! i am pretty proud of that!

I made tons of ornaments! Had great fun soldering! I forgot how much I like to solder. I have painted, made cards and now I am back on the Altered Alice design team. I have a custom order of 12 cards that I had to make and get in the mail. Done! Now I am working on my next project for the Altered Alice and I am starting to write another article for a magazine. More on that later. That is hush, hush!

I will keep this updated much more. It is one of my goals for the year. I just get caught up in the art and forget to blog about it. If you guys could see everything I do you would be amazed and ask why didn't you put that on the blog, oh and that too, and that.......you get what I mean. I just get to wrapped up in it.

I will leave you with a few pictures.

We all need Thank you cards in January, right?
These two are made with 7 gypsies Lille 6X6. I bought this a while ago and have not had a chance to play with it, so it turned into some nice thank you cards. Of course I need to distress each one. Everyone knows I need to distress pretty much every little thing! Thank goodness for Ranger/Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous.
Not a great picture but you get the idea. I only made 2 Christmas cards this year and this is one of them.
Yes, shame on me!
 Inside
I will be back on Thursday and show you some ornaments! Hey they were also on Ranger's facebook page!
