CHAPTER 11: Stripes!

"At the two-yard peg she faced round, and said, 'A pawn goes two squares in its first move, you know.
So you'll go VERY quickly through the Third Square--by railway, I should think--and you'll find
yourself in the Fourth Square in no time. Well, THAT square belongs to Tweedledum and
Tweedledee--the Fifth is mostly water--the Sixth belongs to Humpty Dumpty--But you make no
remark?'
'I--I didn't know I had to make one--just then,' Alice faltered out."

-- Chapter 11, Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There

Happy new year! When I think of Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee, I always think stripes and plaids. Lewis Carroll does not mention the patterns they are wearing, but so many illustrations and movies have clad them in mismatched stripes and patterns. Your challenge this month is to use STRIPES

Jenny Doh, formerly the managing editor of the famous Stampington publications, has started an artist's community website called CRESCENDOh. There is an online shop selling all kinds of things including charming CRESCENDOh clear stamps, including the Alice in Wonderland by Danita set that the design team is showing off. But the heart of the site is all the stories; stories by artists of all kinds, stampers, quilters, paper crafters. Each shares a tale of how art has changed their life. For some it is a joyous outlet, but for many others it has been a way to stay afloat in times of tragedy or grief. As I thought about this challenge, the theme of STRIPES seemed appropriate. Stripes decorate circus tents and tents of the knights of old. Stripes are birthday wrapping paper and elegant Regency wallpaper. Stripes are the traditional garb of prisoners, and stripes are also how the marks of a whip are described. Stripes can represent so many different things, and the creative process has been many things to the people who have contributed stories to the CRESCENDOh site.

Author Jenny Doh is donating a signed copy of her latest book, Art Saves, which is not only full of eye candy but is also full of the stories of how art changes lives. "Discover not only the HOW but also the WHY, through the stunning projects and unique stories of 20 exciting multi-media artists." Thanks so much to Jenny for contributing such a meaningful prize to start off 2012!

Enter your project featuring stripes by Friday, Jan. 27. The winner will be announced the following Sunday. As always, entries that feature Wonderland will have two chances at the random drawing instead of one. You may enter as often as you like but each entry must be on a separate post. All posts must mention and link back to the challenge.

You have until Friday, Dec. 23 to enter. The winner post will either be a little early or late, as the last Sunday of the month falls on Christmas day!

To celebrate the season, we bring you The Lewis Carroll Memorial Window at Daniell Chapel in England. Notice the left panel where Lewis Carroll and Alice kneel to pay homage to the newly born Christ in this wonderful Nativity scene! Our quote this month is actually contained within the window, do you see it?

The window was designed by the stained glass artist Geoffrey Webb, a must-see for anyone that loves Wonderland. A wonderful Christmas poem by Lewis Carroll is shown in the center three bottom panels, which include characters from Wonderland - the White Rabbit, Dodo, the Caterpillar, Mad Hatter, and more!

My December challenge is my own version of the Cheshire Cat, with his BIG cheesy grin! I did a
tri-fold Christmas card. The 1st thing I had to do was draw a Cat fitting to be the Cheshire. This is what I came up with. Hope you all like it!

My Christmas Card to all of you!

                                                                      Front of the card

                                                                   Open to the second fold
                                                                        Inside of card
                                                                                        Just some close ups

What products did I use? I used my own drawing and lettering.
Red paint was from Creative Inspirations.
(They were our sponsor in august and I was unable to be a part of the last few months, so I used it here)
I also used the Ranger's Winter release of Distress Inks Iced Spruce.
Snowflakes are from a cube stamp that I have had for a while, don't know who it is from.
Also used colored pencils for the color on the Cheshire Cat.
Oops, and some Stickles for some sparkle.

Thanks for stopping by.

Wishing you a Happy Holiday!

We look forward to seeing your holiday greetings, so send us a Christmas Card! If it features Wonderland, you will have two chances at the randomly awarded prize instead of one. Multiple entries are fine, but each must be on a separate post.

Please go to the Altered Alice blog and enter.

Anything Goes

Anything goes! Yep that's what they said at Simon Says Stamp and Show. So this is my anything!

I put together a Western Shadow box of my Great Nephew. I used some of tim's products, which include
Distress inks, number plate (plaquettes), hanging sign die cut, swivel clasps and last but not least his paper. The piece of wood, barbed wire, rusty nails all gifts of the earth around these parts. Oh and grungepaper and some distress embossing powder (tims).
It is kind of hard to take a picture of glass.
                            (just my opinion)
Close up of sign and rusty nails

                                                OUCH!
This is hard to bend! Let me tell you, I scratched my hand a bit......even a little blood! But none got on the paper! That's what counts!

Hop on over and follow the blog at Simon Says Stamp and Show, they call it Stamp-tember Blog Hop. You will like what you see!

Hope you enjoyed my play of the Wild Wild West!

I'm back in Colorado

I am back. It was a very hard trip to take. We left Colorado for a mini vacation and my father passed. The trip home felt like forever. Many things running thru my mind.
There were many moments of laughing and joking, crying and laughing again. I did get to spend time with family and friends. It was wonderful to see, hug and talk with the g-kids.

Funny Funny Farris

I have come back here to Colorado and I am being whisked away to the mountains for some camping and horseback riding, some fishing and some gold panning. So I will not be sharing any art for at least a week. But I will leave you with one of my favorite pieces.
